Polished concrete is achieved through a mechanical technique that involves refining and polishing an existing concrete slab using specialized floor grinders equipped with industrial diamond abrasives. This process entails grinding, honing, and polishing the concrete with progressively finer diamond grits until the desired shine is attained. There are four distinct levels of finish or shine for polished concrete.
Different Levels of Polished Concrete:
- Level 1 - Soft Matte Finish: A Level 1 polished concrete floor features a matte appearance, giving it a soft and hazy look with little clarity or reflection.
- Level 2 - Low Sheen Finish: A Level 2 polished concrete floor exhibits a subtle sheen. This finish is the most commonly chosen option, as it allows for minimal overhead reflection detectable from approximately 100 feet away.
- Level 3 - Medium Gloss Finish: A Level 3 polished concrete floor presents a medium gloss that effectively reflects objects. This level of polish is favored in settings where a glossy finish is sought, such as restaurants, breweries, and retail spaces. From a distance of about 30-50 feet, the floor will reflect light well.
- Level 4 - High Gloss Finish: A Level 4 polished concrete floor boasts a high gloss finish, providing a shine comparable to glass with excellent light reflection. The surface often appears almost wet from various angles.
